Cometele periodice

Cometele periodice care au fost observate la mai multe treceri la periheliu, cunoscute până la data 12 decembrie 2019. În tabel sunt trecute următoarele informații:

  • numărul cometei - număr dat în ordinea descoperirii; cometele care au litera „D” după număr s-au dezintegrat și nu mai pot fi observate;
  • nume - numele cometei dat după descoperitori (dar nu mai mult de trei nume); unele comete sunt descoperite de telescoapele automate LINEAR, LONEOS sau NEAT;
  • anul descoperirii;
  • următoarea trecere la periheliu - anul când cometa se va întoarce la Soare; indică anul când cometa va fi cel mai bine observabilă; numai cometele cu perioade mai lungi pot deveni vizibile cu ochiul liber;
  • perioada - perioada de rotație în jurul Soarelui, în ani.

Tipuri de orbite cometare

Cometele au orbite periodice sau neperiodice.

Cometele cu orbite periodice (comete care se întorc periodic la Soare) sunt:

  • scurt periodice - perioade mai mici de 200 de ani;
  • lung periodice - perioade mai mari de 200 de ani;

Cometele scurt periodice sunt de două feluri:

  • din familia Jupiter - perioade de maxim 20 de ani;
  • din familia Halley - perioade mai mari de 20 de ani;

Cometele neperiodice sunt fie comete cu perioade de sute de mii sau milioane de ani, sau comete care au o viteză atâd de mare încăt pleacă în spațiul interstelar.
